Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a form of manual exfoliation similar in theory to microdermabrasion but without the use of suction or abrasive crystals. A sterile blade is stroked along the skin at an angle to gently shave off dead skin cells from the epidermis. Dermaplaning also temporarily removes fine facial hair (vellus hair), which may result in a smoother-feeling skin surface.

As with any type of exfoliation, the removal of dead skin cells, dermaplaning may assist with improved absorption of skincare products and may help reduce the appearance of fine lines, skin tone irregularities, or congestion in some individuals. Results vary.

Dermaplaning may be combined with other treatments such as a chemical peel that may support a refreshed skin appearance.

FAQ’s

Will dermaplaning make facial hair grow back thicker or darker?

Facial vellus hair (commonly known as “peach fuzz”) typically grows back with the same texture and colour. However, individual results may vary.

Is dermaplaning uncomfortable?

Most individuals find dermaplaning to be a gentle and well-tolerated treatment. Sensations can vary based on personal skin sensitivity.

Can dermaplaning cause breakouts?

Dermaplaning involves surface exfoliation, which may assist in reducing the buildup of dead skin cells. However, skin responses differ, and any treatment carries the potential for temporary irritation.
